Job Details

The Metal Finisher in Fayetteville, AR, is responsible for inspecting welds and performing the passivation process to remove iron from the surface of corrosion-resistant steel parts. This role also includes metal finishing tasks such as grinding and sanding welded parts and, occasionally, marking logos on steel parts. The Metal Finisher plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality standards and maintaining an immaculate workspace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including daily sweeping, wiping down equipment, and taking out the trash.
  • Ensure everything within each cell has a home position and is in place at the end of each shift.
  • Keep the consumable cabinet neat, tidy, organized, and stocked daily.
  • Maintain the forklift in its home position at the charger.
  • Inspect parts/pieces from the sandblasting/coating company.
  • Communicate with the Assembly team when parts/pieces are ready for assembly.
  • Perform weekly eyewash/safety shower inspections and report defects to the shop foreman.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. consecutively and stand for at least 8 hours per day.

Weld Passivation:

  • Inspect all equipment for cleanliness and good welds.
  • Position equipment for cleaning using sawhorses, forklifts, etc.
  • Turn on the weld passivation machine and set it to “propel wide & turbo clean.”
  • Pour TIG Brush Weld Cleaning Fluid (TB-25) into a small cup and use it to passivate welds, ensuring all color is removed.
  • Use Neutralizer (TB-42) and water to wash the entire piece of equipment, then rinse and dry it thoroughly.
  • Eliminate all sharpie marks with alcohol.


  • Position equipment for marking using sawhorses, forklifts, etc.
  • Apply the stencil according to the provided drawings.
  • Use Marking Fluid (TB-90) to mark the stencil, then rinse and dry the equipment and stencil.
  • Notify the Assembly Cell that the equipment is clean.

Metal Finishing:

  • Inspect welds to determine if they can be resurfaced.
  • Position equipment for resurfacing using sawhorses, forklifts, etc.
  • Grind and sand to achieve the desired finish.
  • If needed, start the weld passivation process; if not, notify assembly that the equipment is ready.


  • Maintain an ultra-low percentage of mistakes by inspecting welds/products thoroughly.

Equipment Operation:

  • Operate metal/weld passivation and sanding equipment.
  • Perform maintenance such as replacing passivation tips and sanding belts.


  • Paint equipment as needed.
  • Ensure all markings are removed.
  • Inspect bead blasts to ensure proper finish.
  • Evenly clear coat items as prescribed by the account manager.
