Job Details
We are seeking a skilled Metal Finisher for our Fayetteville, AR location. The Metal Finisher will be responsible for inspecting welds, performing the passivation process to remove iron from corrosion-resistant steel parts, and conducting metal finishing tasks such as grinding and sanding welded parts. In some cases, the Metal Finisher will also mark logos on steel parts. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, a commitment to maintaining a clean work environment, and the ability to communicate effectively with the assembly team.
Key Responsibilities
General Responsibilities:
- Maintain a pristine work area by performing daily cleaning tasks including taking out the trash, sweeping the floor, wiping down equipment with water, and ensuring carts are clean.
- Ensure all items within each cell are in their designated home positions, using shadows for verification at the end of each shift.
- Keep the consumable cabinet neat, tidy, organized, stocked daily, and accurately documented.
- Return the forklift to its home position at the charger.
- Inspect parts and pieces from the sandblasting/coating company.
- Communicate with the Assembly team when parts/pieces are ready for assembly.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Conduct weekly eyewash and safety shower inspections, following the checklist, dating, and initialing the inspections. Report any defects to the shop foreman for repairs.
- Lift 50+ lbs consecutively and stand on feet for at least 8 hours per day.
Weld Passivation:
- Inspect all equipment for cleanliness and weld quality.
- Position equipment for optimal cleaning using sawhorses, forklifts, etc.
- Operate the weld passivation machine, setting it to “propel wide & turbo clean.” Place the machine on sleep mode during breaks and power it down at the end of the day.
- Use TIG Brush Weld Cleaning Fluid (TB-25 red color) to passivate welds, ensuring all color is removed without letting the acid dry on the equipment.
- After passivation, wash the equipment with Neutralizer (TB-42 blue color), wipe down with a cloth, rinse thoroughly with water, and dry with a cloth.
- Remove all sharpie marks with alcohol.
Marking:
- Position equipment for marking using sawhorses, forklifts, etc.
- Apply stencils per provided drawings.
- Operate the marking machine, setting it to “propel wide and marking.” Place the machine on sleep mode during breaks and power it down at the end of the day.
- Use Marking Fluid (TB-90 purple color) to mark the stencil, then wash the stencil and markings with clean water.
- Dry the stencil on a flat surface.
- Rinse off the marking and equipment with water and dry with a cloth.
- Notify the Assembly Cell that the equipment is clean.
Metal Finishing:
- Inspect welds to determine if they can be resurfaced.
- Position equipment for resurfacing using sawhorses, forklifts, etc.
- Grind or sand to achieve the desired finish.
- If necessary, perform the weld passivation process after grinding/sanding. If not, notify assembly that the equipment is ready.
