Job Details

Our staffing agency is seeking an experienced HVAC Product Development Technician II for an on-site temporary opportunity supporting Rheem North America’s HVAC product development operations in Fort Smith, AR. The HVAC Product Development Technician II will perform testing of HVAC components and systems in accordance with engineering specifications, established procedures, and industry standards.
This position will work alongside senior technicians and shift leadership to set up and conduct tests, maintain test equipment, troubleshoot HVAC systems, collect and analyze data, and document test results. The ideal candidate will have hands-on HVAC experience, strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work safely and accurately in a product development laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, adjust, and change test samples and test equipment according to engineering specifications and defined test practices.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial and residential test chambers, instrumentation, and related equipment.
  • Rebuild and modify HVAC test units, including replacing compressors, coils, fan motors, and other components.
  • Perform brazing, refrigerant recovery, evacuation, and charging as required.
  • Collect, analyze, interpret, summarize, and document testing data.
  • Review and communicate test conditions, procedures, results, and recommendations.
  • Prepare written reports summarizing project results and conclusions for project leaders.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of test status, issues, observations, and results.
  • Provide clear handoff documentation to ensure continuity between shifts.
  • Maintain laboratory organization, cleanliness, and safety standards.
  • Manage electronic communications, assigned tasks, test records, and project documentation.
  • Complete assigned projects and participate in research and development design teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree, vocational/technical certificate, or equivalent experience.
  • EPA Universal certification required.
  • At least 2 years of similar experience in an HVAC or gas-heat testing laboratory or in HVAC/gas-heat technician work.
  • Experience with commercial HVAC products, service, or installation preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a forklift license within 6 months of hire.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
Key Skills
The successful HVAC Product Development Technician II will be able to read and interpret schematics, engineering drawings, technical reports, safety procedures, and equipment operating instructions. Candidates should have a solid understanding of equipment assembly, basic electrical wiring, system maintenance, and mechanical troubleshooting.
Experience rebuilding refrigeration systems, replacing compressors, coils, and motors, brazing connections, and recovering, evacuating, and charging refrigerant is important. The position also requires the ability to safely use hand tools and welding/brazing equipment.
Strong communication, attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are essential. Candidates should also be comfortable working independently with minimal supervision when assigned tasks require it.
