Job Details
Our client is seeking an experienced Robotic Welder Operator to join their production team. The Robotic Welder Operator will set up, operate, monitor, and maintain robotic welding equipment while ensuring finished products meet quality and production standards. This position requires strong welding skills, the ability to read fabrication drawings and welding symbols, and a commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
The Robotic Welder Operator will also assist with manual welding, equipment troubleshooting, material handling, and cross-training in other production areas as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, load, and unload robotic welding cells.
- Program and adjust robotic welding equipment as needed.
- Perform welding and complete welds that cannot be applied by the robot.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, fabrication standards, sketches, and specifications.
- Use measuring tools such as tape measures, squares, protractors, weld gauges, and rulers to properly lay out and position materials.
- Inspect parts and welds visually and dimensionally to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards.
- Prepare joints and perform welding according to applicable Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and fabrication drawings.
- Use proper welding sequences to maintain required geometry and minimize distortion.
- Clean welds and surrounding areas by removing spatter, slag, and other residue.
- Operate welding equipment, wire feeders, welding guns, plasma cutters, grinders, gouging equipment, and other common welding tools.
- Troubleshoot robotic welding and production equipment and report machinery issues to Maintenance.
- Mark and tag materials with job numbers, piece marks, and other required identification.
- Safely move materials and finished products manually or with hoists and cranes.
- Accurately complete production records and visual tracking systems.
- Follow all safety, environmental, quality, and process-control procedures and use required PPE.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including sweeping floors, stacking pallets, restocking materials, and removing trash.
- Cross-train in additional production positions and assist in other areas of the plant as needed.
- Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying ideas for improving production processes and workflow.
- Perform other duties as assigned by plant management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 2 years of welding experience.
- Certified Robotic Arc Welder Operator preferred/required.
- Must be able to pass a welder qualification test in accordance with AWS D1.1 for unlimited thickness in the 2G position.
- Current crane and forklift certification is preferred, if applicable.
- Ability to read and interpret welding symbols and fabrication drawings.
- Ability to use common welding measuring tools and perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to cross-train and work in different production areas as needed.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Physical & Work Environment
This position involves working around machinery, moving equipment, vehicles, and materials in a manufacturing environment. The work area may be loud, non-temperature-controlled, and occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
The Robotic Welder Operator must be able to regularly stand, walk, talk, hear, reach, push, pull, grasp, kneel, crouch, twist, and bend. The position may also require occasional sitting, climbing, and crawling. Candidates must be able to lift and move materials weighing approximately 35–55 pounds. Use of a Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) is required.
