Job Details

Our client is seeking a dependable and hardworking Grounds Keeper to help maintain the appearance, cleanliness, and overall condition of a large campus property. The Grounds Keeper will be responsible for routine lawn care, mowing, trimming, edging, litter removal, and general grounds maintenance.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in maintaining attractive and well-kept grounds, and is comfortable operating commercial landscaping equipment. The successful Grounds Keeper will work as part of a team to ensure lawns, walkways, parking areas, flowerbeds, and other outdoor spaces remain clean, safe, and professional in appearance.

Key Responsibilities

Mowing & Turf Maintenance

• Operate a John Deere 636M QuikTrak 36″ stand-on mower in tight areas around buildings, flowerbeds, fences, and other campus obstacles.
• Assist with mowing open turf areas alongside the zero-turn mower operator as needed.
• Maintain consistent mowing heights and patterns according to established guidelines.
• Complete the weekly mowing cycle across assigned campus turf areas.
• Inspect mowing equipment and report maintenance or safety concerns as needed.

String Trimming & Edging

• Operate Stihl weed eaters to trim around signs, trees, fences, curbs, flowerbeds, building foundations, and other obstacles.
• Operate a Stihl edger to maintain clean, defined edges along sidewalks, curbs, and flowerbed borders.
• Complete trimming and edging on the same day as mowing whenever possible.
• Maintain a neat and professional appearance around buildings, walkways, and landscaped areas.

Cleanup & Campus Appearance

• Operate a Stihl backpack blower to clear grass clippings and debris from sidewalks, walkways, parking areas, and building entrances after mowing.
• Perform regular litter pickup throughout the campus.
• Keep outdoor areas clean, orderly, and free of debris.
• Help maintain a professional appearance across all grounds.

Flowerbed & General Grounds Support

• Assist with flowerbed weeding and general landscaping maintenance.
• Assist with deadheading flowers and seasonal planting as directed.
• Support re-mulching of campus flowerbeds during winter months.
• Assist with other general groundskeeping and landscaping duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous groundskeeping, landscaping, lawn care, or outdoor maintenance experience preferred.
• Experience operating commercial lawn care equipment is a plus.
• Ability to safely operate mowers, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, and other landscaping equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining attractive grounds.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Dependable, punctual, and willing to work outdoors.
• Ability to follow instructions and established safety procedures.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and reach for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, and move landscaping materials and equipment.
• Ability to operate landscaping equipment safely.
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods and in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
