Position Summary
The Machine Operator is responsible for operating plastic injection molding, extrusion, and assembly equipment to produce quality products that meet customer specifications. The Machine Operator will monitor equipment performance, inspect finished parts, complete production documentation, and maintain a clean and safe work area. This position requires attention to detail, the ability to follow work instructions, and a commitment to producing quality products efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and understand production books, work instructions, and quality requirements.
- Operate plastic injection molding, extrusion, and assembly machines.
- Monitor assigned equipment to ensure proper operation and report production issues to management promptly.
- Process molded components using hand tools as needed.
- Inspect parts for quality and identify cosmetic or production defects.
- Separate defective products from acceptable products.
- Assemble components according to work instructions.
- Package finished products for shipment.
- Grind and recycle scrap runners while following company recycling practices.
- Clean and blow off machines and workstations during and after production.
- Complete all required production paperwork accurately and on time.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Qualifications
- Ability to read and understand written work instructions and production documentation.
- Basic math skills, including counting, addition, and subtraction.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining quality standards.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
- Ability to recognize machine alarms and communicate production concerns promptly.
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Perform repetitive hand, wrist, and finger movements.
- Frequently grasp, pinch, and handle small parts.
- Bend, stoop, and reach throughout the workday.
- Lift and move up to 20 pounds or more as needed.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, including periods of extreme heat.
- Exposure to machinery noise requiring hearing protection.
- Exposure to dust, odors, fumes, and other manufacturing conditions.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
Safety & Quality
Safety and quality are essential to success in this role. The Machine Operator is expected to:
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE, machine guarding, Lockout/Tagout procedures, and safe lifting practices.
- Inspect the work area for potential hazards before beginning work.
- Report all accidents, near misses, and safety concerns immediately.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation.
- Follow all Quality Management System (QMS) policies and procedures to ensure products meet company and customer quality standards.
