Road Technician (Field Service Technician)

Job Details

Key Responsibilities

• Travel to customer sites to repair and maintain forklifts and material handling equipment.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fuel system issues.
• Perform breakdown repairs, emergency service calls, and corrective maintenance.
• Complete repairs identified during preventative maintenance inspections.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance as assigned.
• Inspect equipment and identify potential issues before they lead to breakdowns.
• Ensure equipment is repaired and returned to safe operating condition.
• Communicate with customers about equipment condition, repairs, and recommendations.
• Provide professional and courteous customer service at all job sites.
• Complete work orders, service reports, and electronic documentation accurately.
• Record labor hours, parts used, equipment readings, and repair details.
• Properly document warranty-related repairs.
• Identify parts needed for repairs and communicate needs to the Parts Department.
• Maintain assigned service vehicle, tools, and parts inventory.
• Account for all issued parts and return unused parts as required.
• Communicate regularly with the Service Manager or Service Writer regarding job status and scheduling.
• Assist Rental and Operations teams with field service and equipment inspections.
• Follow all company, OSHA, and customer-site safety requirements.
• Report unsafe equipment, working conditions, or customer concerns immediately.

Qualifications

• Previous experience repairing or servicing forklifts, heavy equipment, industrial equipment, automotive equipment, or similar machinery preferred.
• Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and fuel system problems.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple service calls.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to complete service documentation accurately.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record.
• Ability to work in outdoor and customer-site environments.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment, tools, and parts as needed.
