Job Details
Our client is seeking a dependable Road Technician (Field Service Technician) to provide on-site service and repairs for forklifts and material handling equipment. The Road Technician will diagnose equipment issues, perform repairs and preventative maintenance, and help keep customer equipment operating safely and efficiently. This is a field-based position that requires strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills, independence, and professional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Travel to customer sites to repair and maintain forklifts and material handling equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fuel system issues.
- Perform breakdown repairs, emergency service calls, and corrective maintenance.
- Complete repairs identified during preventative maintenance inspections.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance as assigned.
- Inspect equipment and identify potential issues before they lead to breakdowns.
- Ensure equipment is repaired and returned to safe operating condition.
- Communicate with customers about equipment condition, repairs, and recommendations.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service at all job sites.
- Complete work orders, service reports, and electronic documentation accurately.
- Record labor hours, parts used, equipment readings, and repair details.
- Properly document warranty-related repairs.
- Identify parts needed for repairs and communicate needs to the Parts Department.
- Maintain assigned service vehicle, tools, and parts inventory.
- Account for all issued parts and return unused parts as required.
- Communicate regularly with the Service Manager or Service Writer regarding job status and scheduling.
- Assist Rental and Operations teams with field service and equipment inspections.
- Follow all company, OSHA, and customer-site safety requirements.
- Report unsafe equipment, working conditions, or customer concerns immediately.
Qualifications
- Previous experience repairing or servicing forklifts, heavy equipment, industrial equipment, automotive equipment, or similar machinery preferred.
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and fuel system problems.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple service calls.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to complete service documentation accurately.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record.
- Ability to work in outdoor and customer-site environments.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment, tools, and parts as needed.
