We are seeking a detail-oriented Sample Handler to support laboratory, engineering, shipping, and receiving operations for our client in Lowell, AR. The Sample Handler will be responsible for managing samples throughout the entire process, including receiving, internal distribution, laboratory testing, storage, and final disposition. This position is ideal for someone who is organized, comfortable working with computers, and able to follow detailed procedures.
The Sample Handler will use database software and basic Microsoft Office programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel, to track and manage samples. The successful candidate will ensure samples are properly identified, stored, documented, and available when needed for testing. This role requires strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently while also communicating effectively with internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, organize, sort, and distribute samples throughout the facility.
- Manage samples from receiving through laboratory testing and final disposition.
- Check samples against established requirements and communicate any issues to the appropriate project team.
- Ensure samples are handled according to quality processes and applicable accreditation requirements.
- Work with laboratory and engineering teams to ensure samples are ready and available for testing.
- Store samples in the correct locations and maintain accurate records.
- Communicate with internal customers by phone and email regarding sample returns.
- Support laboratory, engineering, and shipping/receiving teams as needed.
- Maintain and organize warehouse and sample storage areas.
- Conduct periodic inventories of sample storage locations.
- Report lost, missing, or damaged samples and assist with researching and resolving discrepancies.
- Use Microsoft Word, Excel, spreadsheets, email, and database software for daily tasks.
- Assist with reports, metrics, and other documentation as needed.
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and productive work area.
- Assist with training staff as directed.
- Support continuous improvement efforts and follow established procedures.
- Follow company standards regarding quality, conduct, and physical and digital security.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a laboratory, warehouse, sample handling, inventory, or similar environment is preferred.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, spreadsheets, email, and Microsoft Word.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to alphabetize and organize items numerically.
- Comfortable with filing, sorting, and maintaining records.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift approximately 15–20 pounds.
- Comfortable with frequent walking, standing, lifting, sorting, filing, and climbing as needed.
- Ability to perform basic computer-based research and data entry.
- Background or familiarity with laboratory sciences and sample handling is a plus.
- Knowledge of relevant quality or regulatory standards is preferred.
