Job Details

Our client is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Technician (Preventative Maintenance Technician) to perform scheduled preventative maintenance on forklifts and material handling equipment. The Technician (Preventative Maintenance Technician) will conduct routine inspections, servicing, and safety checks to keep equipment operating safely, reliably, and efficiently.

This position is responsible for identifying potential equipment issues before they lead to breakdowns, documenting maintenance findings, and supporting the readiness of rental and customer-owned equipment. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical skills, pays close attention to detail, and is committed to maintaining high standards for equipment safety and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on forklifts and material handling equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Complete inspections based on operating-hour intervals, maintenance schedules, and PM checklists.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as fluid checks, lubrication, filter changes, adjustments, and safety inspections.
  • Identify worn, damaged, or potentially failing components during inspections.
  • Document maintenance findings and recommend repairs as needed.
  • Ensure all PM work meets company and manufacturer standards.

Equipment Inspection & Documentation

  • Accurately document completed PM services, inspections, and equipment findings.
  • Record equipment identification numbers and verify hour meter readings.
  • Clearly document repairs or additional maintenance that may be needed.
  • Immediately report safety-related or urgent equipment concerns.
  • Complete work orders and service documentation accurately and on time.
  • Communicate repair recommendations to the Service Manager.

Rental & Customer Equipment Support

  • Perform preventative maintenance on rental equipment in coordination with the Rental Manager.
  • Help ensure rental equipment remains current on required PM services and is ready for use.
  • Support maintenance of customer-owned equipment in the shop or field.
  • Assist with preparing equipment for rental, delivery, or return to service.
  • Help maintain overall fleet readiness and minimize equipment downtime.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and work practices.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure it meets applicable safety and operating standards.
  • Immediately report unsafe equipment conditions or other safety concerns.
  • Follow OSHA requirements and manufacturer safety guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safe maintenance practices.

Parts & Inventory

  • Identify parts and supplies needed for preventative maintenance and minor corrections.
  • Communicate parts requirements accurately to the Parts Department.
  • Assist with maintaining an adequate supply of commonly used PM components and materials.
  • Properly handle, track, and account for used parts and materials.
  • Keep tools and maintenance areas organized.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience with preventative maintenance, mechanical repair, forklifts, heavy equipment, automotive equipment, or similar machinery preferred.
  • Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to perform routine inspections and identify equipment issues.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fuel systems preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow maintenance procedures, checklists, and service manuals.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to accurately complete maintenance records and work orders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to lift, bend, kneel, stand, and work in physically demanding positions as required.

Work Environment

The Technician (Preventative Maintenance Technician) may work in a shop, warehouse, or other equipment service environment and may occasionally assist with equipment maintenance in the field. The position may involve exposure to noise, machinery, oils, lubricants, and varying work conditions. The Technician (Preventative Maintenance Technician) must maintain a strong focus on safety, equipment quality, and attention to detail throughout all maintenance activities.
