Job Details
The Yard Jockey will be responsible for parking and relocating trailers within the yard using a yard truck. This includes staging trailers at designated dock doors, repositioning empty trailers, and ensuring loaded trailers are properly secured and ready for departure. The Yard Jockey must maintain constant awareness of surroundings, follow all safety guidelines, and communicate effectively with warehouse personnel, dispatch, and supervisors to coordinate trailer movements.
During downtime in the yard, the Yard Jockey will assist inside the warehouse with forklift duties. This may include loading and unloading materials, moving pallets, staging product for shipment, and supporting general warehouse operations. Flexibility and a team-oriented attitude are essential, as the Yard Jockey will transition between outdoor yard responsibilities and indoor forklift tasks as operational needs require.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a yard truck to safely move and position trailers
- Stage trailers for loading and unloading at dock doors
- Perform routine inspections of yard equipment and report issues
- Maintain an organized and efficient trailer yard
- Assist with forklift operations inside the warehouse during downtime
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Yard Jockey or similar role preferred
- Forklift experience required
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
